PROCESS

Telecine Equipment: What is telecine? It means transforming photographic movie (cine as in cinema) film into something electronic that you can watch on your television set. Since movie projectors and TV sets run at different rates, it has to be done properly to not introduce flicker and other artifacts into the picture.
Our machines are self contained. They combine a projector, optical system and quality video camera in one compact unit as in the Elmo TRVs, with improved resolution and a brighter picture. With exposure control, footage counter for argument-free billing, no tricky alignments by the user, frame by frame emulsion side scanning in real time.

How it's done:
Each frame is stopped and scanned by a triple CCD high definition, recording a 410,000 pixel colour picture lines, chipset and transferred to a computer as a digital file where it is checked and enhanced. The high definition film capture enables us to capture each frame at its optimum quality. We remove any blank sections from your home movies; add music and titles if desired and output to whichever format you require. Our cine to DVD & Video service produces excellent results. There is no flicker or centre hotspot with our cine processing method.
If necessary colour correction and film grading is undertaken by our film technician during the enhancement stage. This is free of charge and ensures a quality restoration of colour balance over each full frame of your film.
We are simply the best cine transfer service available today. We have over 25 years experience (since 1984) and by our investment in top of the range high end digital equipment, top brand recording materials and the latest digital enhancement software, we are able to offer you the best possible image and sound on screen from your precious family films.
Don't be tempted to entrust your films with some lower priced alternatives on offer from many photographers and Videographers in our high streets. As the quality of amateur results are often very disappointing and ultimately a waste of time and money.
Memories are a very precious fragile thing, so we think it is fair to say that if you are going to have them put onto Video or DVD, you should get it done right!

How can we improve these recordings?
Well the first thing to remember is that sometimes nothing can be done to restore your films to their former glory, however if there is a picture and sound present it is possible to improve the quality to some extent. We do this by digital remastering of the image, to increase colour saturation which has quite often washed out over the years, to remove video noise and improve exposure. At the very least we can capture the film converting it to digital format and thereby preserving what is left for posterity. We won’t promise the Earth but we do promise to do our best with your memories.

The preview right shows not only how we transfer CINE to digital formats but also what a huge difference digital remastering can make. The film shows a split screen with the original and the remastered films side by side for easy comparison. Films are adjusted for hue, saturation, separate red, green and blue colour channels, sharpness, brightness and contrast and finally digital noise reduction and a few TM specialities!
Digital remastering is also included as Standard for all CINE projects. This advance in our service has been made possible by constantly reinvesting in state of the art computers and equipment.
Digital remastering is suitable for faded film footage, typically CINE or VHS. It can be applied to any footage . We are not going to list the exact way we digitally remaster film footage as it is a trade secret that we have spent a lot of time developing. Suffice it to say that we adjust the following factors:

-Brightness -Contrast -Gain -Red, green and blue channel separate adjustment. -Luminance, saturation and hue -Gamma correction -Highlights, mid tone and shadows -Sharpness -Noise reduction (visual and sound)
